Update on Guillaume Moreaus condition

UPDATE While Moreau underwent emergency surgery at the University Hospital of Angers Sunday evening to relieve pressure around his spinal cord, the procedure was considered a success and no further injuries were found, according to the team.

"Despite the short time frame since surgery, initial signs appear positive," a statement from OAK Racing read. "Post-procedure has been straightforward with Guillaume recovering sensations in his legs and tests revealing greater strength in the area compared to on arrival.

"Such encouraging progress has seen thoughts now turn to a bespoke rehabilitation program tailored to his condition. Nevertheless, Guillaume is fully aware that this will take much time and patience.

"But thanks to his unquestionable mental strength, the team is in no doubt that Guillaume will rise to the challenge presented. Everyone at OAK Racing would like to wish him a full and speedy recovery."

Following a severe accident at the exit of the "Karting Track" corner towards the end of Sunday morning’s session, Guillaume Moreau has suffered a serious but partial injury to his spinal cord’s twelfth vertebra.

Guillaume has since undergone an emergency operation performed by Professor Olivier Lucas at the University Hospital of Angers’ Neurosurgery Department. It was crucial to quickly reduce pressure around the spinal cord following the fracture.

Although the operation went well, it will be several months before his level of recovery can be fully assessed.

The thoughts of the entire team are with Guillaume and his family at this difficult time.
