It was an excellent crowd until just about everyone got up and left when the track fell apart

The Detroit GP IndyCar race was considered a sellout, as organizers confirmed more than 30,000 tickets sold in the grandstands after confirming that only 800 tickets were left by noon. (See what we had to say about it in yesterday's race report).

Denker said sales of tickets came after a record day for Saturday's races that generated 10 percent of the Grand Prix's total ticket sales for the entire year.

"We had a great day on many fronts," Denker said. "We had the highest single-day ticket sales — ever." Saturday had 10,000 paid attendees bringing the weekend total to 40,000.
