IndyCar joins Super Bowl celebration
Most Hoosiers are familiar with the iconic sights and sounds of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May. Now, thanks to a special program Super Bowl weekend called "Super Cars," more than 150,000 football fans visiting central Indiana will get to see 36 specially-painted IndyCars up close.
"We're taking something very Indianapolis and we are kind of re-branding it for each football franchise, so no matter who you cheer for, this will make for a great photo op while you are in town for the Super Bowl," said Jeff Robinson, Super Bowl Host Committee.
The work is already underway in a shop in Speedway. Thirty-two cars will represent each NFL team, two will feature AFC and NFC championship team cars and there will be two Super Bowl XLVI cars.
Organizers hope visitors will have fun exploring central Indiana as they go in search of their favorite NFL team car. The IndyCars will be placed around central Indiana at 18 places declared "Super Celebration" sites in towns such as Anderson, Bloomington, Columbus, Muncie and Greenwood.
The final placement of each team car around central Indiana depends on where the team ends up, with the exception of the Colts car. Because Indianapolis is the host city, it has been pre-determined the Colts car will be prominently displayed at Tech High School in Indianapolis.
Although there will be a lot of money changing hands the week leading up to the Super Bowl by fans, the event is free.
"With the exception of a little gas money, north side or south side, west or east, you are able to go around the entire city and get a feel for that Super Bowl game and see these great teams," said Jeff Smith, Indy Racing Experience. WTHR.com
