Albany start-up MoveThatBlock.com sponsoring IndyCar race

MoveThatBlock.com is not a household name, but the owners of the fast-growing, online classifieds company in Albany, New York, are raising the website’s profile by sponsoring an IndyCar race.

The MoveThatBlock.com INDY 225 will be held Aug. 14 at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire.

Todd Drowlette, co-founder and chairman of MoveThatBlock.com, said the race will be broadcast on ABC and draw an estimated 1.5 million viewers.

Dario Franchitti, winner of last year’s Indy 500, Danica Patrick and Helio Castroneves are among the drivers expected to compete.

Drowlette said he could not reveal how much the sponsorship cost the online company, but he said sponsorships generally cost $500,000 to $1 million-plus.

“It’s a one-shot deal but we’re certainly looking to continue our relationship with IndyCar," Drowlette said.

Drowlette started MoveThatBlock.com last September with a former Siena College roommate. Today, he said the website has more than 1 million job listings, including thousands of local jobs, and more than 1 million homes for sale in the United States.

The site will expand in about two weeks to include more than 2 million new and used cars for sale. Sponsoring the IndyCar race was seen as a natural tie-in with the car listings.

“We’ve been growing in New York and New England and this seemed like the right crowd," Drowlette said.

Besides serving as company chairman, the 30-year-old Drowlette is principal broker at IKON Realty Group in Albany. The Morning Call Business Review
