IndyCar introduces the ‘Milka’ rule, so she’s off to ARCA

UPDATE Team owner Dale Coyne, who had Duno and her sponsorship in his program last year, asked Barnhart to allow her to compete on ovals this season; Barnhart said he is leaning toward approving that. However, it might not matter, Coyne said Thursday.

"It looks like she's doing ARCA," he said of the Venezuelan driver's stock car test this week at Daytona International Speedway.

Duno couldn't be reached for comment. She is signed to drive next month's ARCA season opener for Sheltra Motorsports. Coyne supports the 105 percent rule but said IndyCar ought not cast stones. He said for the first time in the nearly 30 years he has been associated with the sport, all but one team is taking money from drivers.

01/11/11 In a rule change clearly aimed at moving chicane Milka Duno, IndyCar will be increasing the performance standard for participation in 2011. For several years on the road and street course events they used 107 percent of the fastest lap time as the cutoff for participation. They are moving that down to 105 percent this year for the current season. As an example, the fastest lap time is 60 seconds on a road course, you must be at 63 seconds or better to continue to participate for that weekend. This is consistent with their position of having the best teams and drivers in the world and will continue to tighten the competition.
