Germany’s Sky to broadcast F1 in HD

German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland will show the Formula 1 races in native HDTV in the 2011 season. The live footage from all 20 weekend races will be produced in high-definition for the first time this year. In December 2010, Sky Deutschland extended its Formula 1 rights contract.

“Like millions of car racing fans across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, we have long hoped for Formula 1 in true HD," Brian Sullivan, CEO of Sky Deutschland, said in Munich.

“This is a great expansion of Sky’s market-leading HD service, which will allow Sky subscribers to enjoy the best coverage of top motor-sport action without commercial breaks in a quality never seen before."

The native HD coverage of the Formula 1 will commence at the Bahrain Grand Prix taking place March 11-13. With the Sky Sport App Sky subscribers can also follow the races in HD quality when they’re away from home.
