Electric single seater presented in Mexico

UPDATE A reader writes, Dear AR1.com, An open wheel car that can run 20 to 25 minutes between battery replacements? I can see future race cars where pit stops will be who can change their batteries and tires faster. You are spot on, electric is the future for the automobile. IndyCar missed a golden opportunity to become a test bed for every car manufacturer in the world by not having two engines in their new 2012 car – a small (very small) fossil fuel engine coupled with an electric motor. The fuel tank could be reduced in size and the space and that of the sidepods replaced with quick change batteries. Any race series that does not have electric power as part of their future in the next 5 years is going to become irrelevant to every car manufacturer. Yehuda Rosenberg

Electric Formula EF01

The world’s fastest 100% electrical single seater racing car – the EF01 –was presented to Mexican President Felipe Calderon along with members of the official delegation present in Cancun earlier this week.

A dynamic demonstration then took place in Playa del Carmen where the Mexican President showed a keen interest in the new car and championship currently being organized.

Indeed, Calderon was open to Formulec bosses’ proposals for a future championship event to be staged in Mexico.

The Electric Formula’s testing and development work has been jointly undertaken by French Formulec test driver Alexandre Prémat and Mexican racer Michel Jourdain Jr.

The EF01 single seater devised for the forthcoming Formulec series and developed by international engineering and high-tech consultancy group SEGULA Technologies demonstrates that speed and efficiency can also be respectful of the environment.

From November 29 to December 10 more than 190 countries will attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Cancun, Mexico.

More than ever, Formulec and the EF01 are contributing to motorsport’s position as a laboratory for new technologies spearheading the path to a greener future.

The car ran for the first time in public between December 5 and 8 as part of the “Green Autoshow" as well as being displayed at the Green Solutions@COP16 companies’ exhibition.

This event will present electrical, hybrid and other clean technology vehicles. Its objective is to promote the transfer of technology and development of projects, as well as actions, products and services in favor of the environment’s preservation.

International engineering company SEGULA Technologies has developed the EF01 together with prestigious European industrial partners, including Mercedes Grand Prix, in order to offer staggering performance figures efficiently, such as 0-100 km/h in 3 seconds and a 250 km/h top speed.

The single seater’s development, which has lasted two and a half years, reaffirms the continuous technological progress present in motorsport where research, innovation, performance and, now, sustainable development, are closely linked to achieving a level of excellence.

International events and championships hosted by Formulec bringing together electrical single seaters from around the world will materialize quickly, before a Formulec world series, with around ten events per year, commences in 2012 and continues in ‘13, ensuring the EF01’s presence on five continents.
