Maxwell Paper Racing Announces Expansion to American Le Mans Series

Maxwell Paper Racing is proud to announce that it will contest the American Le Mans Series’ GTC class in the 2011 season.

Fresh off a strong season in the Patron GT3 Challenge presented by Yokohama, in which Ross Smith captured the Platinum Cup championship while brother Kendall Smith finished second in the Gold Cup championship, the team is now prepared to move up to the highest level of North American sports car racing with the Smith brothers sharing driving duties in the 2011 season.

Maxwell Paper Racing combined to win 12 races and one championship in 2010, demonstrating that it has a talented staff of management, engineering, and crew to make the step up to ALMS GTC. The team’s recent acquisition of new support equipment means a large step forward in the footprint, professionalism, and competitiveness of the Maxwell Paper Racing team. As a result, the team will be opening its doors to clients looking to compete in ALMS GTC, Patron GT3 Challenge, or in Porsche Club of America events in 2011.

The team’s operations will be based at The Motorsports Ranch in Cresson, Texas and at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia.

“I am really excited for Maxwell Paper Racing to be headed in this direction in the new year," said Kendall, who serves as the team’s manager in addition to driving. “After competing in the Patron GT3 Challenge, winning one championship and finishing second in the other, moving to the American Le Mans Series’ GTC class is a natural move that the team is ready for. It should be a real challenge and Ross and I are really looking forward to getting behind the wheel in GTC."

For Ross Smith, who tied the Patron GT3 Challenge record for wins in a season, the adjustment from the Patron GT3 Challenge’s sprint race format to the ALMS distance races won’t come as too much of a challenge as both he and brother Kendall have extensive endurance racing experience in a variety of series.

“The American Le Mans Series’ GTC class will be our most challenging racing project to date, and I’m really looking forward to it," said Ross. “We have competed in endurance racing in the past, and we know that we’ll be going up against very talented drivers and teams. But we feel we have the team and equipment capable of running at the front, and Kendall and I are up to the challenge."
