New bridge enhances Singapore circuit access
The 280 meter-long pedestrian bridge links the track with the equally spectacular triple towers of the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort. A new entrance gate exclusively for Zone 1 and Premier Walkabout ticket holders gives access tithe track close to Turn 18.
The new bridge features a unique double-helix spiral structure which has been described as a" world’s first in architectural and engineering bridge design.". The bridge has five viewing platforms which provide stunning views of the Singapore skyline and the bayside areas of the circuit. During the race the bridge will be illuminated by a series of lights that highlight the double-helix structure, creating a new addition to the special night-time visual experience for visitors and TV viewers alike. The new Helix Bridge is also a perfect contrast to the venerable Anderson Bridge which the cars cross before Turn 13. It too will be specially illuminated in celebration of its centenary this year.
The Helix Bridge is one of several additional viewpoints from which visitors can get a new perspective on the 2010 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX. A partnership with the Singapore Flyer allows Pit, Turn 1, Turn 2 and Republic (Turn 3) Grandstand ticketholders, as well as hospitality suite, Formula One Paddock Club and Premier Walkabout spectators unlimited rides (subject to capacity) on the world’s largest observation wheel. To further enhance the spectator experience, live entertainment will be offered in an outdoor amphitheatre at the Singapore Flyer, while ‘bleachers’ at strategic locations along the trackside will allow Premier Walkabout ticketholders to enjoy close-up views of the race’s final corners and the pit lane entrance.
