Piquet to race NASCAR #1 truck at Daytona

UPDATE Nelson Piquet is pleased to announce he will make his debut in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series opener at Daytona International Speedway on 12 February.

Nelson will compete the NextEra Energy Resources 250 in the #1 truck with Red Horse Racing. He has previously tested for the team at the Motor Mile in October 2009 and at New Smyrna Speedway earlier this month. The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series features modified pickup trucks. It is one of the three national divisions of NASCAR, together with the Nationwide Series and the Sprint Cup.

Talking of the forthcoming race Nelson said: “I’m very excited! The size of the Daytona track is amazing and it’s going to be fantastic racing side-by-side in a tight drafting pack of trucks. I learned a lot racing in the ARCA event last weekend and now I can’t wait to start my NASCAR career."

Red Horse Racing Co-Owner Tom Deloach said: “We have closely observed Nelson in our testing and believe he has a great future in NASCAR. He exhibits excellent car control, gives good feedback, but needs the side-by-side experience. He’ll get plenty of that in Daytona!"

02/08/10 Former Formula One driver Nelson Piquet Jr. will enter the NASCAR Truck Series race at Daytona International Speedway. Red Horse Racing announced Monday that Piquet will enter the No. 1 Toyota in Friday’s race at Daytona.

The Brazilian driver has tested several times with Red Horse and made his stock-car debut in Saturday’s ARCA race at Daytona. He started seventh and finished 27th.
