Former Mile promoter, NASCAR settle suit
NASCAR had sued Wisconsin Motorsports and its principal, Claude Napier, accusing Napier of not paying approximately $1.9 million for staging a Camping World Truck Series race and a Nationwide Series race last June. In the suit, a NASCAR attorney accused Napier of committing fraud by inducement.
The settlement was confidential. But in a terse statement by NASCAR, it is clear there are still hard feelings.
"While we're glad to settle the litigation, this is a very unfortunate conclusion. NASCAR has loved racing at the Milwaukee Mile for nearly 20 years and our fans deserve better. We depend on strong partnerships in each community where we race to make the events exciting and successful for everyone."
Napier is not out of the financial woods. According to an Indy Racing League source, Napier owes that racing body an estimated $1.2 million for the ABC Supply/A.J. Foyt 225 IndyCar weekend last May. The IRL has not filed suit in an effort to recover its losses.
He also owes the State of Wisconsin $20,900.
Napier, reached before the settlement was announced, said he "had no problems in dealing with NASCAR, Indy or the State Fair Park board. All have handled their business in a very professional and straightforward manner." JSonline.com
