Langhorne Speedway reunion planned

The long and storied history of Langhorne Speedway will be brought to life at the Motorsports 2010 presented by StreetBlaze 100 Race Car & Trade Show at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pa., on Friday, January 22 through Sunday, January 24..

A large part of show space will be devoted to the one-mile legendary track, which operated from 1926 through 1971 and was labeled “the home of the brave" as it was considered one of the toughest and most dangerous tracks in the United States.

Race fans are invited to bring their Langhorne Speedway scrapbooks and memorabilia to share with other attendees.

Also, fans of past and present will have an opportunity to meet with many of the racing stars who made Langhorne Speedway a legendary race facility.

Notable personalities scheduled to appear include:

Don “Dutch" Hoag: Five-time Race of Champion Modified Classics at Langhorne Speedway (three wins on dirt and two on pavement).

Ralph “The Racer" Liguori: Open-cockpit racing legend who made many USAC Championship Car Series visits at Langhorne Speedway. His career spanned well into his 70s and he won a minor race in 2000 at 73 years old.

Hully Bunn: First RoC-sanctioned event winner at Langhorne Speedway in 1951.

Roger Treichler: Last RoC-sanctioned event winner at Langhorne Speedway in 1971.

Bill Wimble: 1960 NASCAR National Sportsman champion and the first New York State champion who competed frequently at Langhorne Speedway during his 20-plus career span

Wes Moody: Multi-time stock car feature winner from Saranac Lake, N.Y.

Coastal 181, publisher of a variety of top-rated auto racing books, is throwing their support behind the Langhorne Speedway reunion and will have copies of “Langhorne! No Man’s Land" available for purchase.

The book, written by Spencer Riggs, has had rave reviews. It covers the entire history of Langhorne Speedway.

The Langhorne Speedway reunion, including cars that actually raced at the Bucks County (Pa.) track, is being arranged by Ray Shea and the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club.

An autograph session is being planned for Saturday, January 23, with a full slate of participants to be announced in the near future.

Shea can be reached at bigblock7s@comcast.net or by telephone at 732-330-8349 for those with cars to display and drivers who would like to display and the autograph session.
