Status signs Gary Anderson for GP3

Status Grand Prix has finalized an agreement with renowned Formula One designer and technical director Gary Anderson to continue as the team’s Technical Consultant as it enters the newly launched GP3 Series.

Status Grand Prix, which won the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport this year running the A1 Team Ireland entry, is one of 10 elite race teams to be selected to compete in the pan-European championship established to identify Formula One stars of the future.

Anderson, whose association with Status GP goes back three years, said…

“GP3 is a new challenge for everyone, with a new car and new tires. A team of Status GP’s caliber, with its A1GP success, will be very competitive. I look forward to an interesting season."

Working with Anderson at the helm of Status Grand Prix’s race team will be the highly regarded Simon Cayzer, who has Formula One experience with Jordan Grand Prix and managed the Piquet Sports team in the GP2 Series before joining Status GP in 2007. He scored A1GP race wins as team manager of the Status-run A1 Team Canada entry in 2007-08, and as race engineer at A1 Team Netherlands in 2008-09.

Status shareholders Mark Gallagher, David Kennedy and John Hynes are delighted to be challenging for another international championship title, and are joined in this by the team’s majority shareholder, Canadian Teddy Yip.

“We are thrilled to be taking part in this fantastic new series," said Yip. “GP3 will be fiercely competitive and is designed to give young drivers a great chance to progress their careers towards F1. We believe Status GP can provide the ideal environment for them to do just that."

The team-ownership exploits of Yip, 27, are following in the footsteps of his father, Teddy Yip Sr, whose Theodore Racing team competed in Formula One from 1977 to 1983.

The GP3 Series will complement the established GP2 Series, already proven as they key feeder series to Formula One and completes the ladder for young drivers to climb to the sport’s pinnacle at Grand Prix events in front of the F1 teams. Status GP continues to assess leading junior single-seater drivers to spearhead its championship assault, and announcements on its line-up and other exciting developments for the team will be released in the coming weeks.
