Plowman joins Andretti Lights team

AFS Racing/Andretti Green Racing announced today that driver Martin Plowman will join the team's roster for the 2010 Firestone Indy Lights season.

The 22-year old native of Tamworth, England, comes to the team after posting two top-five and eight top-10 finishes during his rookie year in the Firestone Indy Lights Series.  Plowman's driving career began at the age of 12 when he claimed the British Formula Yamaha Open title.

In 2003 Plowman was credited as the first Briton and youngest winner of the French International Open Championship and was elected as a member of the British Racing Drivers' Club's Rising Star program after capturing four wins and seven podiums in just 10 events.  After proving himself a natural-born competitor, Plowman was selected by motorsports legend Alex Zanardi as a sole works driver for Team Zanardi's world championship karting team.  He proved himself further by claiming the coveted CIK/FIA Asian Pacific Championship in Team Zanardi's third outing.

Plowman will look to defend AFS Racing/Andretti Green Racing's two-year entrant championship streak in the Firestone Indy Lights Series.

Martin Plowman:             "I've really enjoyed racing in the Firestone Indy Lights Series this year and to get the opportunity to join AFS Racing/Andretti Green Racing next season is fantastic. The 2010 season will be crucial for me in my quest to reach the IndyCar Series, so to join the two-time defending Series Champions and a proven winner is awesome.  Today is a tremendous step forward in my racing career.  I can't wait to start working towards next season."

Gary Peterson, owner, AFS Racing:             "I'm excited about signing Martin Plowman to drive for us next year.  He's a good driver and I think he has a lot of potential. With our team as strong as we are right now he will be a welcomed addition and a great team player. Our goal for 2010 is to get our third consecutive championship title and Martin can help us bring that goal to life."

Michael Andretti, co-owner, Andretti Green Racing:             "We're excited about bringing Martin on board for next year. Our Firestone Indy Lights program is on a good roll right now and we believe Martin is one of the guys that can keep it going in 2010. It's good to get him signed early like this and get him introduced into the team this fall so we can make the most of the off-season."
