Brawn fined for speeding in Britain

(GMM) Ross Brawn on Friday escaped with a $1300 fine and driving license demerit points after admitting to speeding at more than 100mph in late May this year.

The formula one team owner and boss did not appear in the Plymouth Magistrates Court (UK) to answer the charge of breaking the A30 speed limit by 30mph at the wheel of his Mercedes E320.

His lawyer said the 54-year-old Briton, who could have lost his license for the offence, had been late for an appointment due to being stuck earlier in heavy traffic.

"The traffic (on the A30) was light," Brawn's lawyer told the court, according to local British media reports. "He fully cooperated with the police. He apologizes."

On top of the fine, magistrates ordered that six points be added to Brawn's license. British drivers' licenses have a maximum of 12 points, and the former Ferrari technical director already lost 3 in February.
