Webber, Newey, enjoy sporting break from F1

(GMM) Mark Webber is filling F1's three-week calendar break by taking a first-hand look at a range of other sports.

First, the Australian lover of outdoor activities took in a weekend of speedway and superbikes, before joining a training session of the Australian cricket team led by his friend Ricky Ponting.

"Ricky invited me down here, so it was a good opportunity to come across and say hello," Webber, who drives for Red Bull, said from Worcester.

His next stop will be Wimbledon.

Meanwhile, Red Bull's car designer Adrian Newey got behind the wheel last weekend as he contested the Britcar Spa Euro Race at fabled Spa-Francorchamps.

While there, he took the opportunity to tour the new Formula 2 series operation.

"I was impressed with what I saw — it is fantastic to have a senior level category with this kind of budget. It's a great alternative to series like GP2, where it can be so difficult to raise the budget," said Newey.
