Reader finds Patrick commercial offensive

A reader writes, Dear AR1.com, you probably were not subjected to the latest Danica Patrick commercial for her mobile sponsor. This one has fat men with excessive breasts coming up to her, squeezing their oversized breasts together, and her signing them. It happens twice during the commercial.

Now, if IndyCar is marketing itself for a young adult audience only, this kind of thing might work. The disgust factor would be seen as funny. However, I wasn't watching it alone, but with my six- and five-year old sons and wife. My six-year-old took great interest in the commercial, making comments and asking questions about it. My wife's comment was that she has lost all respect for Danica.

The NFL has had a problem with its unsuitable commercials for a couple of years, but I don't really watch it that much anymore so my boys aren't really subjected to it. However, I would love to contribute to the next generation of Indy Car fans by having my sons watch the races with me. If I can't do that because of a frankly vile and disgusting commercial, then that would be a shame both for them and for Indy Car.

After a tortured recent past, it's time that Indy Car took steps to improve its future. The Versus contract is not helping. To throw in vile commercials to help undermine that future is a very effective way of solidifying that bleak future. Jim Allen, Scottsville

Dear Jim, Our sources tell us her image is why she won't be driving a factory Toyota car in NASCAR next year. Mark C.
