Darlington Raceway Ambassador Passes Away
Lane, 82, was a part of the inaugural event at the track in 1950 and an even bigger part of ensuing events for more than 50 years. She came to personally know hundreds of NASCAR drivers and their families.
A native of Mullins, S.C., Lane served as administrative assistant to the president of the track. The late NASCAR Chairman and CEO Bill France Jr. referred to Clarice as one of his favorite people.
"She sold the sport with her personality," NASCAR Vice President of Corporate Communications Jim Hunter said.
She was married to the late Floyd N. Lane. She is survived by three children, Reecie (Freeman), Neil, Johnny and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Belk Funeral Home in Darlington on Thursday, Feb. 5th from 5-7 p.m. Graveside services will be held on Friday, Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. at Darlington Memory Gardens in Darlington, S.C.
