Alex Brundle to compete in F2

Alex Brundle

Alex Brundle is the latest driver to confirm his participation in the 2009 FIA Formula Two Championship.

Brundle – son of former F1 driver and BBC commentator Martin – joins after graduating from the Formula Palmer Audi championship. In his second season of FPA, Brundle scored three podiums on his way to taking sixth overall in the 2008 standings. Brundle also claimed a pole position on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit – a venue that will be visited by the FIA Formula Two Championship in 2009.

Alex Brundle said: “Formula Two is the right choice for my career. Driving a car designed by a Formula One team is fantastic. I have experienced the way in which MotorSport Vision runs a championship, and I trust MSV to run a professional and fair operation so I can show my full potential. The level of competition will be huge but I see that as an opportunity not a threat. I just can’t wait to get in the car!"

Martin Brundle said: “F2 cars will be fast, competitive, strong, equal, high profile and good value. This ticks many boxes for parents and sponsors and the direct F1 link is important too. I’m delighted that sponsors GAC global logistics, SEN Space Exploration News channel, and Nasstar cloud computing and hosted desktop will again be joining us for the adventure and opportunity."

Jonathan Palmer, Chief Executive of championship organizer MotorSport Vision, added: "I have obviously known Martin (Brundle) for many years and I have seen first hand the speed and determination of Alex during his time in FPA. He is, without doubt, one of Britain’s rising young talents and I'm very pleased to welcome him to the 2009 Formula Two line-up."

Charles Black, founder of SEN and Nasstar, said: "As a pioneering British company we are delighted to sponsor an exciting British driver into the new F2 championship."
