Newman’s widow returns to stage

Paul Newman's widow Joanne Woodward is coming out of acting retirement, three months after the death of her husband of 50 years.

According to the National Enquirer, the actress struggled with her grief following Newman's death from cancer at the end of September, until he visited her in a dream and told her to get back to work.

The 78-year-old Oscar winner has listened to his advice and joined the cast of A Holiday Garland, at the Westport Country Playhouse, near her Connecticut home – 15 years after her last appearance on the big screen, in Tom Hanks movie Philadelphia.

A source tells the Enquirer, "In an attempt to heal her broken heart, Joanne is going to return to acting – granting Paul's final wish.

"In his final days, he confided in close family members and friends that his main concern was Joanne's life after he was gone. They were soul mates and he knew she would be facing a hard road after his passing.

"He thought she should return to what she did best besides being his life partner – and that was acting."
