Pantano ready for F1, Senna not – Zanarini

(GMM) Giancarlo Fisichella's manager says Giorgio Pantano, the newly crowned GP2 champion, is ready to move up to formula one.

But the Italian, who with Fisichella runs a team in the feeder category, believes the much-vaunted Bruno Senna, who apparently has had contact with nine of F1's ten teams about 2009 and beyond, is not ready.

"Obviously in the car he's a very good driver, but he's not ready yet," Zanarini, who previously guided Eddie Irvine's formula one career, told GP Week. "He's not Hamilton or Rosberg."

Zanarini is, however, impressed with 29-year-old Pantano, who after several campaigns in GP2 and its predecessor F3000, finally won the title a couple of weeks ago at Monza.

"The problem for him is that formula one probably will not want him because of his age and because he's been there before. But certainly he deserves the attention of every manager.

"If it can happen for (2007 champion Timo) Glock then it can happen for Giorgio," Zanarini added.
