Ford to turbocharge 90% of its engine

Ford Motor Co. has picked Honeywell International Inc. to develop turbochargers for a V-6 engine in the automaker's line of EcoBoost engines. Honeywell said it will make twin turbos for the 3.5-liter V-6 EcoBoost engine that will go into the 2010 Lincoln MKS luxury sedan.

Lincoln spokesman Mark Schirmer said he did not know how many turbochargers Honeywell will make for Ford or how much the company would be paid.

Ford has said its EcoBoost line of four- and six-cylinder direct-injection turbocharged engines will be able to deliver performance of larger engines with a 20 percent improvement in gas mileage.

The automaker hopes to put EcoBoost engines in 90 percent of its vehicles annually by 2013.
