Famous fan hopes Alonso goes to Ferrari

(GMM) Even the world famous opera singer Placido Domingo has an opinion about whether Fernando Alonso made a good move from McLaren to Renault for this formula one season.

One of the Three Tenors, Spaniard Domingo – in Hungary for a concert – took the opportunity to visit the formula one paddock at the weekend, where Alonso gifted him an autographed helmet.

"I was quite surprised by this, it was very sweet," Domingo said. "I'm going to make an exhibition of this beautiful present in my home."

Domingo, 67, admits to being a motor racing fan, and said he did not enjoy seeing former double world champion Alonso's troubled time at McLaren last season.

He backs the Spaniard's return to Renault in 2008.

"Now I see a Fernando that is a lot more relaxed. He knows the difficulty of his situation this year, but he's getting on with it," Domingo said.

It is strongly rumored that Alonso's next move might be to Honda, but Domingo hopes the driver's apparent ultimate ambition is fulfilled soon.

"To me, it would be incredible if he ends with Ferrari because it would be the unison of two great passions," he said.
