Elliott testing #21 at Nashville; Wood to run Daytona

Wood Brothers Racing is set to test Nashville Superspeedway on Wednesday, July 2nd. Coming off of a strong performance in Sonoma, the team experienced disappointment last weekend when they did not make the race in New Hampshire. The #21 team and driver Marcos Ambrose found that the Little Debbie #21 Ford did not respond to any changes that were made and the handling issues persisted during the practice sessions and qualifying on Friday afternoon. Driver Marcos Ambrose stated that after such a fantastic run at Infineon, not making the race was disheartening. He said, “It’s really disappointing. I just feel bad for the Wood Brothers. I’ve had limited experience in the COT and we just didn’t roll off the truck that great and I haven’t had enough experience to really give them direction to tune on it. I tried as hard as I could there, but it just wasn’t to be."

Taking a proactive stance, the team and Bill Elliott will be testing a new car at Nashville. Ford Racing Engineer, Dave Cimba, commented on the team’s goals for the test, “It was time to put that New Hampshire chassis away and start from scratch. We believed that we had fixed previous issues, but it wasn’t the case, new issues would develop, so it’s time to cut it down and start over. The goal of this test is to make things better on the cars week in and week out and to try new ideas that will make performance and handling better overall. Bill Elliott is the best candidate to drive because he’s been in the #21 for most of the season and can give us good feedback for tracks that we race on similar to Nashville Superspeedway. As we test new ideas and find that they work we will incorporate them into the rotation of the fleet of cars that we have built." The team also plans to step up the testing program for the rest of the season on intermediate tracks where the most improvement is needed. Wood Brothers Racing will head to Daytona International Speedway for July 4th weekend in the patriotic #21 U.S. Air Force Ford Fusion with Jon Wood once again behind the wheel for the Coke Zero 400 on July 5th.
