Gene to skip Montreal after Le Mans crash

Marc Gene is also a Ferrari test driver

(GMM) Marc Gene has called off his scheduled attendance at the Canadian grand prix this weekend following his huge testing crash for the famous Le Mans race.

The some-time Ferrari test driver was hospitalized on Sunday after his Peugeot sports car slid on the wet grass and flipped before striking a barrier at high speed.

Spanish media reports on Tuesday said Gene, who is 34, checked out of hospital with severe bruises all over his body and feet.

The news agency EFE also said Gene has been ordered to rest, with the impact also resulting in the contracture of two vertebrae and the dislocation of a toe.

He has therefore decided to cancel his planned journey with the Ferrari team to Montreal, as his injuries have made it difficult for him to easily walk.

The Le Mans 24 hour race takes place next weekend.

"I will see how I go over the week, but doctors have advised me to rest," Gene said. "Le Mans is very close and I want to recover so that I am ready."
