IndyCar still has a long way to go

IndyCar Racing is a very damaged product since the split from CART in 1996 and although the two sides are now back together and everyone is optimistic that it's on its way back to being popular again, not everyone feels that way according to a recent Sports Business Journal article. Some skeptics see TV ratings below 1.0 and laugh at the notion that Indy Car will gain any semblance of relevance.

"The property is a dog," said one sports media buyer from a major agency who requested anonymity. "We have not bought anything there in years."

This is something Tony George has to overcome. He started the split that destroyed the sport and now he and his organization will have to try and rebuild it. With NASCAR so popular in comparison, they have a very steep hill to climb.
