Milwaukee Mile Improves Fan Midway
Fans will see some improvements in place on the fan midway when they attend the May 30 – June 1 ABC Supply / A.J. Foyt 225 IndyCar Series weekend at The Mile.
“To ensure the safety of our loyal fans, and in the interest of easing congestion, we’ve worked with the West Allis Fire Department and officials to map out a flow that frees up what has been a crowding issue at certain locations on our Grandstand Avenue," explained Milwaukee Mile Chairman Craig Stoehr.
Grandstand Avenue is the roadway that is directly behind the speedway’s all-aluminum grandstand that was constructed in 2003. In the past, vendors along one side of Grandstand Avenue and entry gates did create congestion issues closer to race start times.
There will now be three entrance gates which will feed Grandstand Gates 4 through 9. The gates will be placed on Grandstand Avenue at Main Street, Second Street, and at the Amphitheater, allowing more room for spectators to make their way from these new entrance gates to their reserved seats. Access to The Mile’s Terrace seating will remain unchanged.
Stoehr pointed out the unique fairgrounds layout at The Milwaukee Mile, which will continue to feature the utilization of permanent fairgrounds buildings on race weekends.
“Our new fan-friendly midway relocates a number of our exhibitors from Grandstand Avenue to Central Mall, which will allow free-flowing access to large displays and the variety of food and beverage selections that help make attending a race at The Mile such a unique fan experience, “Stoehr said.
The Mile will continue to accommodate the increasingly larger interactive exhibits like the IndyCar Series Fan Experience, for example.
The Milwaukee Mile welcomes the stars of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, June 1 in the ABC Supply / A.J. Foyt 225 IndyCar Series race, the aspiring drivers of the Firestone Indy Lights in a 100-mile sprint as a prelude to the IndyCar Series event, and stock car racers from Minnesota to Florida competing in the Sears Auto Center 150 USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series stock car race on Saturday afternoon, May 31, following the new 4-lap average IndyCar Series Pole Qualifying session, held in true Indianapolis tradition.
