Verizon Wireless to sponsor Nationwide entry

Gillett Evernham Motorsports officials have announced plans for Verizon Wireless and Motorola to sponsor Nationwide Series driver Chase Miller in seven races this season.

Because the deal is for the Nationwide Series only, there is no conflict with Sprint and its Sprint Cup Series like AT&T Wireless had with the Cup Series on Jeff Burton's car.

Verizon and Motorola officials hope to reach race fans through racing-themed events such as promotional giveaways and contests. Miller’s “profile as a successful driver with youthful exuberance" will be highlighted, the team said.

“This is fantastic news for me," said Miller, who is slated to drive in about 15 Nationwide races in 2008. “My dream has always been to race in NASCAR, and when someone gives you an opportunity to race in more Nationwide Races, it’s like getting the perfect birthday gift.

“To do it with companies like Verizon Wireless and Motorola makes it even better. I am sure the text messages will start rolling in once they hear about this deal for me."
