Germany excluded from Sprint race

A1 Team Germany has been excluded from sixth place in this morning’s Sprint race in Durban, South Africa.

Michael Ammermuller was judged to have ‘caused an avoidable collision’ with the Netherlands’ Jeroen Bleekemolen, and was not classified in the final results.

The incident occurred at the final corner, when Ammermuller ran into the back of the Dutch car, spinning him round and bringing out the red flag.

The penalty moved the rest of the field up one place, earning extra championship points for Australia, Portugal, Mexico, Malaysia and the USA.

It is the fourth driving penalty Ammermuller has received in races this season. In Malaysia’s Sprint race he collided with Canada’s Robert Wickens and was given a 25-second time penalty.

In the following Feature race, he was given a pit-lane drive-through penalty for an incident with Great Britain’s Oliver Jarvis, and ultimately excluded for a similar incident with Erik Janis’ Czech Republic car later in the race.
