Laguna Seca expects to lose Open Wheel race

As many of you have probably heard by now, the Champ Car World Series and Indy Racing League have just announced that they completed an agreement in principal to unify the two series. The Champ Car World Series is scheduled to race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on Sunday, May 18 during the Monterey Festival of Speed, and to conduct testing on March 13-14. Until an official announcement is made regarding the 2008 Champ Car World Series schedule, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca has issued the following statement:

“The Monterey Festival of Speed, May 16-18, will continue to feature the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, along with the Atlantic Championship and Formula BMW. Other race series are being considered for the weekend and a revised schedule will be released soon.
