Hamilton sparked McLaren crisis – Campos

(GMM) Adrian Campos says Lewis Hamilton was squarely to blame for the turmoil within the McLaren team in 2007.

The GP2 team boss, who formerly managed Fernando Alonso and also raced for Minardi in the 80s, refutes Emerson Fittipaldi's warning that Nelson Piquet Jr could create similar trouble for double world champion Alonso at Renault next year.

"It seems that Nelsinho has inherited the character and the pride of his father," Campos told the 'Radioestadio del Motor' show, featured on the Spanish radio station Onda Cero.

"But he also seems to have the humility to know who his new teammate is. I can't see him causing a crisis, like Hamilton did at McLaren," Campos added.

Campos said relations began to turn irrevocably sour at McLaren in 2007 when Hamilton bemoaned a race strategy that favored Alonso winning the Monaco grand prix.

He said: "If you wear the number two on your car, you need to know why. He sparked a crisis that Ron Dennis was then unable to manage. But this would not happen with Flavio (Briatore)."
