Brno: South Africa takes Sprint race pole

Adrian Zaugg set the single fastest lap during the first two qualifying segments putting 'Vulindlela' in the top spot for the start of the Sprint race, followed by 2006 pole-sitter New Zealand's Jonny Reid who will start from second place.

Zaugg was pleased with his third pole position of the 2007/08 season but also frustrated after making a few mistakes:

'We are just running on old tires like most of the guys. We were on old tires this morning so it was very difficult to know how the car would behave on new tires so I think we really did a good job. Germany was just ahead of me on the exit of turn one but to be fair I don't think it cost me that much time, maybe a couple of hundredths but then I had two or three little mistakes from myself so I threw it away there, but it is still a good position and we have a good chance for tomorrow.'

Reid was held up by traffic but still managed to qualify second for the Sprint race and feels confident ahead of tomorrow's two races:

'There was a bit of traffic and there was a car spun on the final new tire run at turn one which is quite a key corner to do on your hot lap here. I lost a lot of time and also it was either bad timing or not enough courtesy out there, because there was a car in front of me and going into turn one they took the racing line and slowed down and I lost a lot of time. Anyway, I'm confident for the races because if you look at the practice times we were at the top quite considerably.'

Commenting on last year's first corner tangle between pole-sitter New Zealand and second placed Germany at the start of the Brno Sprint race, Reid said:

'I drive for New Zealand and I want to win for New Zealand. Last year was last year and I'll be out there to do my best.'

Great Britain's Robbie Kerr and Ireland's Adam Carroll will line up alongside each other on the second row of the Sprint race grid, followed by Jeroen Bleekemolen in the Dutch car and Switzerland's Neel Jani in fifth and sixth position respectively.
