Why Chicagoland added lights

Chicagoland Speedway has installed lights for the ’08 season, when the track will host the July 11 Busch Series and July 12 Sprint Cup races at night. The track will become the tenth Cup venue capable of hosting night racing. The Cup race, traditionally run on Sunday afternoon, will be moved to Saturday night, and the Busch race will be shifted from Saturday afternoon to Friday night. Chicagoland Speedway President Matthew Alexander said, “Night racing is one of the most thrilling experiences for fans to be a part of, and now we will be able to bring that type of buzz and exciting atmosphere to our facility" Chicagoland Speedway
