Ferrari ‘satisfied’, McLaren ‘shocked’

(GMM) Ferrari on Thursday said it was "satisfied that the truth has now emerged" after McLaren was punished by the World Motor Sport Council in Paris.

The Maranello based team, which as a result will win the 2007 championship by default, said in a statement that the new evidence presented at the FIA headquarters proved "behavior of an extremely serious nature and grossly prejudicial to the interest of the sport".

McLaren is due to comment at an imminent press conference, but Mercedes' Norbert Haug said briefly on Thursday evening that the team was "shocked" by the verdict.

The FIA, meanwhile, clarified that McLaren will be eligible to score constructors' points again starting from the 2008 world championship, subject to "a full technical report" of the MP4-23 car.

Moreover, the record $100m fine will be lessened by the lost television and travel income that would have been earned by McLaren this year under the terms of the Concorde Agreement.

A team representative will also not be allowed to climb the podium and receive a trophy "should a McLaren driver win in any of the remaining races of the 2007 season," the FIA said in a statement.
