Driver parity to remain at Ferrari, McLaren

(GMM) Ferrari boss Jean Todt has dismissed speculation that the Italian team might now impose a 'number one' driver for the remaining races of 2007.

With Felipe Massa retiring from the Italian grand prix, the Brazilian has now fallen five points behind his teammate Kimi Raikkonen with four grands prix to run.

Raikkonen is therefore the closest Ferrari competitor to McLaren, but a troublesome 18 points behind championship leader Lewis Hamilton.

But Frenchman Todt told reporters before leaving Monza: "At the moment, they will race."

Raikkonen, however, refused to answer the question when he was separately asked by the media after Sunday's race.

"I don't know," the Finn said. "You need to ask the team."

Fernando Alonso's Monza win, meanwhile, moved him to within three points of teammate Hamilton's lead, and he said he hoped McLaren would maintain its policy of driver equality over the next races.

"We are both going to try to win the championship," the Spaniard told the newspaper Diario As on Sunday.

"The team has been talking about equality all season and that is the way the last four races are going to be; or at least I hope so."
