Meijer Family Fun Zone at Detroit GP

Meijer is ensuring that the return of world-class auto racing to the Motor City is exciting for fans of all ages by sponsoring the Meijer Family Fun Zone during the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, August 31-September 2, 2007. The Meijer Family Fun Zone will be located in the general admission area within the race circuit, featuring a wide variety of interactive displays and activities for all ages, great views of the track and a dedicated general admission grandstand along with a Jumbo Video Screen for viewing the racing action. Activities in the Meijer Family Fun Zone will be free for all Grand Prix attendees. .

Open all three days of the Grand Prix between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET, The Meijer Family Fun Zone will feature a carousel and an air-conditioned tent serving as a movie theater with the Disney movie Cars playing each day at 1:30 p.m. A Cars photo area for kids will also be operating throughout the weekend, along with the Disney D-Tour – an interactive entertainment experience produced by Disney Radio. Interactive displays from local sports teams, including the Detroit Lions, Detroit Pistons and Detroit Tigers will be featured as well. The Detroit Science Center, Detroit Zoo and Ford Motor Company’s River Rouge Plant will also bring exhibits and interactive displays to the Fun Zone. Arts and crafts areas with face painting, balloon artists and caricaturists will also be included in the area, along with the Indy Fan Zone display with IndyCar driving simulators, and the Sony PlayStation interactive zone.

In addition to the displays and activities, the XM Radio Stage will be located within the Meijer Family Fun Zone and will feature the classic rock band Cheap Trick after the completion of Saturday’s American Le Mans Series race and alternative rock artists Soul Asylum after Sunday’s IndyCar Series race. Both the American Le Mans Series and IndyCar Series all-driver autograph sessions will also be located in the Meijer Family Fun Zone on Saturday afternoon, September 1.

General admission tickets for the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix are $25 each for one-day admission or $40 for each two-day ticket with children 12 and under admitted free with a ticket-bearing adult, but race fans can purchase discount general admission tickets by visiting their local Meijer store. A total of 37 Meijer stores throughout southeastern Michigan are offering one-day general admission tickets for $15 each and two-day GA tickets for $25 each now through the September 2 Detroit Indy Grand Prix presented by Firestone IndyCar event. Tickets can be purchased at the checkout counter.
