Franchitti, Castroneves and Kanaan fined

Three of IndyCar racing’s top drivers will receive fines when they arrive at the next race, at Infineon Raceway.

Brian Barnhart, the chief steward of the IndyCar Series, said Dario Franchitti, Helio Castroneves and likely Tony Kanaan will be punished for their driving in the Meijer Indy 300. Franchitti will be fined for running into the back of Kosuke Matsuura after the checkered flag. Barnhart said the veteran should have been paying attention.

Castroneves and Kanaan will be cited for making contact with each other late in the race. Barnhart, who called it unsportsmanlike conduct, said Castroneves was more to blame because he was a lap down and Kanaan was slightly in front of him. Recent precedent suggests the amount will be $25,000 per driver. AutoWeek
