Weekend USA TV Ratings

UPDATE #2 Final USA TV ratings from this weekend's races. While the preliminary overnight ratings showed ALMS trouncing Champ Car, the final numbers show them tied. Since they share much the same fan base, had they not been in the same time slot perhaps each would have had a 0.8.

08/15/07 The final NASCAR Nextel Cup Watkins Glen TV rating from last Sunday was a 3.5 on ESPN, down a massive 33% from last year's 5.2 on NBC. NASCAR's TV ratings continue to plummet unabated and this news must be a major blow to ESPN who paid hundreds of millions of dollars to NASCAR for the privilege of losing their shirt. NBC learned their lesson and hence refused to submit a re-bid for the contract. Meanwhile ESPN continues to largely ignore the IRL and Champ Car as they put all their eggs in the NASCAR basket. When it's all said and done those eggs are likely to be poached – i.e. NASCAR has stolen ESPN's money and is laughing all the way to the bank.
