Spectacular PSV unveiling for Superleague

Dutch football fans have been treated to a spectacular launch by Superleague Formula entrant PSV Eindhoven at the club's open day at Philips Stadium today.

With more than 20,000 spectators on site, the club's livery was revealed outside the stadium when Superleague Formula President and CEO, Alex Andreu; and PSV General Manager, Jan Reker hit a button on stage which swung a giant crane into action – lifting the car high above the cheering crowd who were then showered in confetti and streamers.

The red and white colors were later presented on the pitch with the entire 2007/08 playing squad in attendance.

Reker also presented Andreu with a club shirt bearing the name "Superleague Formula" and the number "08" – designating the start of the championship which will kick off in August next year.

PSV forward and Australian World Cup representative Jason Culina today welcomed his club's introduction into motorsport.

"I really like watching motorsport and it is great to see our colors on this great looking car," Culina said.

"I actually went to a V8 Supercar race back home in Australia recently before heading back to start the season.

"For our club to race against the other big teams in Europe is really going to give our fans something to cheer for – I'm looking forward to seeing it kick off.

"I'd love to have a drive, but I think I'm probably best to save my skills for the football pitch."

PSV will be joined by AC Milan, Olympiacos, FC Porto, Borussia Dortmund, RSC Anderlecht, Flamengo and at least 13 other major international clubs when the championship kicks off in August next year.

"Congratulations to PSV, they really know how to put on a show for their fans," Andreu said.

"The unveiling of the car was undoubtedly spectacular – the crowd certainly showed their enthusiasm for the concept.

"The more of these public events we do, the more excited we become about our championship. The support from the fans is incredibly strong.

"We're thrilled to have PSV on board. Our target is to have the best of the best. We have the Champions League winners, the Greek champions, Belgian champions, the Portuguese champions – when it came to the Netherlands, we couldn't go past PSV Eindhoven."

Further club announcements are expected in the near future with a number of other key European clubs set to join the new championship.
