China’s ex-F1 track chief to stand trial

China's former deputy general manager of the Shanghai International Circuit (SIC) is to be on trial Thursday, being charged with the embezzlement of 1.05 million yuan (around 138,700 U.S. dollars), court sources said on Wednesday. Yu Zhifei, deputy general manager of SIC which hosts the Chinese Grand Prix and Shanghai Shenhua Football Club, has been under investigation since last October with an charge of using company money to pay for a house for personal use. Yu was detained in January and his arrest was approved by court in February. The key promoter and organizer of the Shanghai Grand Prix, along with other three government officials, was expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) in May. Yu is well-known for bringing Manchester United to Shanghai in 1999.
