Hamilton and Alonso to meet

Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso will meet next week somewhere in Europe to clear the air after last week's controversial events in Budapest saw their intense rivalry explode.

The McLaren teammates are keen to settle their differences before they next race against each other at the Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul in a fortnight and they have been on the phone to each other virtually every day during the last week, according to a source close to the Hamilton camp.

Hamilton, who was concerned that he could also give Kimi Raikkonen an advantage by letting Alonso past, went on to lead qualifying until Alonso took over.

According to a source, Hamilton is so concerned about these events and the fact that he and Alonso did not talk in Budapest that he telephoned his teammate last Monday morning.

This was the first of a series of conversations held between the two drivers who now appear keen to get their relationship back on a sensible footing.

"Both agreed that what happened last week in Budapest was an extreme manifestation of the competition between them," explained the source.

"Neither of them want any repeat of this. They realized it looked bad for their team and for themselves because both broke team orders in Budapest. They have agreed that they want a good, clean fight for the title and want to repair the damage."

Their plan is to seal their new-found relationship next week, with Geneva mentioned as a possible meeting place, before going head to head in Turkey on August 26.

Hamilton is also keen to reiterate that he did not use the 'f' word when discussing Alonso's blocking tactics with team boss Dennis last Saturday afternoon during qualifying, a story that spread through the pit lane and was then leaked by a rival team. More at Daily Mail
