Wilson upset with Dan Clarke

Justin Wilson's No. 9 car had been dialed in all weekend, and the Englishman was sitting pretty, having earned the pole position for Sunday's San Jose Grand Prix.

But he ended up planted in his cockpit on pit row for more than 21 minutes – burning up in the afternoon heat and seething after being hit from behind by Dan Clarke under a yellow flag on Lap 4. By the time his crew replaced a broken drive shaft and right-rear suspension, Wilson had lost 21 laps to the field.

Still, his RSPORTS team was determined to squeeze as many points out of this race as possible. Wilson finished in 13th place, 20 laps behind winner Robert Doornbos.

"We were in the middle of Turn 6 and I was radioing asking where can we restart," Wilson said. "I hadn't even got out of the turn when I got this bang from behind. I guess Dan was not paying attention – he just went flying into the back of me."

Wilson didn't plan to confront Clarke about the wreck.

"I mean what am I going to say, `Open your eyes'?" Wilson said. "I have never seen driving like that. I'm amused that he wasn't paying attention." More at San Jose Mercury News
