RCR and DEI complete land purchase

Richard Childress Racing and Dale Earnhardt Inc. have completed the purchase of a tract of land off Exit 85 on Interstate 85 in North Carolina north of Salisbury, N.C., which will house the organizations’ new joint engine facility.

“We’re still working through all the plans, but we hope to move in by January of 2009," said Ritchie Gilmore, DEI’s director of motorsports. “The building should be done before then but fully operational by that date."

Gilmore said all engines used by RCR and DEI should be the result of fully cooperative effort in 2008. The new facility will be large enough to produce engines for up to eight Cup teams (four each for RCR and DEI) as well as engines for the Busch and Truck series, he said.

“Hopefully, we’ll also have the ability to grow into other markers and other forms of racing," Gilmore said. ThatsRacin
