Heidfeld sure back injury won’t recur

(GMM) Nick Heidfeld on Sunday said he is not concerned that a back injury could lead to more problems at the British grand prix in less than seven days.

The German pulled out of the Silverstone test last week with muscle cramps, and it limited his mileage and precipitated treatment in a local hospital after a recurrence during Friday free practice at Magny Cours.

But BMW-Sauber's Heidfeld, who is 30, finished fifth on Sunday despite uncharacteristically lagging the pace of his teammate Robert Kubica throughout the weekend.

"I am not worried," he told the German broadcaster Premiere.

"I have one week to prepare for Silverstone. I was examined and treated here and assume that from now on it will not be a problem for me."

Heidfeld was engaged in a thrilling fight for position with F1's reigning world champion Fernando Alonso during the French grand prix, describing the duel as "fun" despite losing out to an audacious move by Alonso through the Imola chicane.

"I think it was fair racing by both of us," he said, "and I am sure he will see it exactly the same way even if he is probably annoyed about spending so much time behind me.

"But it was great racing!"
