Triple dipping NASCAR drivers

A reader writes, I see where Carl Edwards has made $1,500,000 this year in Cup and another $500,000 in Busch and another $33,000 driving one of them pickup trucks.

This to me is so stupid. Can you think of any other racing series or sport for that matter where the upper stars of a team invade the development series, take their money, take their place in line and for no real reason?

I don’t see F-1 drivers jumping into cars of drivers trying to get seat time and make it to the top. No Champ Car, IRL or any other series does this.

Can you imagine Derek Jeter playing shortstop for a AAA team adding to his bank account? Or Tom Brady stealing a quarterback's job playing in the arena league? No way.

I am real surprised and disappointed more people don’t complain about this. As you well know there are other triple dippers out there like Kyle Busch among others. Doug B.

Dear Doug, NASCAR uses the star power of their Cup drivers to prop up the Busch and Truck Series. Without those superstars the Busch and Trucks series would falter badly. In fact the Cup drivers win almost every Busch Series race. Mark C
