IRL attendance just as bad as Champ Car’s

UPDATE Attendance was announced as 31,858, though the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported that the 40,000-capacity grandstands appeared half full. So despite Champ Car not racing in Milwaukee anymore, and the IRL getting the week after the 500 date, attendance of 20,000 (minus all the free tickets that were handed out) means the IRL should be worried. John Oreovicz put it beast. "With a history of open-wheel racing even longer than that of Indianapolis, Milwaukee is a bedrock of the sport." So if the "bedrock" of IndyCar Racing is failing what will the future look like?

06/04/07 Despite an 80 percent chance of rain, 31,838 people turned out for Sunday's Milwaukee race according to numbers given out by the track promoter. This of course includes free ticket giveaways – example Marlboro is still giving away free tickets to promote its cancer sticks, er….cigarettes. The free tickets were in the lower grandstand section. The crowd was about as small as the June Champ Car race in recent years.
