Philippe completes first V8 Supercar test

On Thursday 31st of May, Nelson Philippe completed his very first test in an Australian V8 Supercar in Queensland. Nelson drove for WPS Racing, owned by Craig Gore, and delivered a strong performance despite suffering from food poisoning and having never driven a touring car type race car before.

Nelson comments, "This is a great experience for me! I really have to thank Craig Gore for the opportunity to let me test one of his cars." The test as Nelson explains was an eye opener in terms of car handling, "The car is so different to what I'm used to, but it brakes better than I anticipated and it has some serious horsepower under the hood. Every time I got on the power for the straightaways, it was so loud it sounded like an alien was dying in there! It was quite difficult getting used to the shifting in the beginning, as I usually have my gears on my right and not my left, but I got used to it pretty quickly. I can now tell why these V8 Supercar drivers have so much fun racing!"

Discussions are ongoing in regards to Nelson competing in the two endurance events towards the end of the year at Bathurst and Sandown. He would team Max Wilson or Jason Bargwanna as the team's 2nd endurance driver. "I have had my eye on this series since I won at Surfer's last year," Nelson said, "and I am keen on securing this ride with WPS Racing. I am very much looking forward to racing in such a professional racing series and will do my best to kick some Aussie butt!"

Nelson will now head to this weekend's Eastern Creek round in Sydney to spend some more time with the team. Nelson Philippe PR
