Spanish Grand Prix postscript
With his second place in the Spanish Grand Prix, Hamilton is now the youngest driver to lead the World Championship points standings.
Hamilton was 22 years, four months and six days old when he took sole possession of the points lead on May 13, 2007.
Bruce McLaren was the previous record holder. He was 22 years, five months and five days old when he won the season-opening 1960 Argentine Grand Prix in a Cooper-Climax.
McLaren founded his F1 team in 1966, and that's the team that Hamilton drives for today.
A victory by Hamilton won't make him the youngest Grand Prix winner. Fernando Alonso holds that record after winning his first F1 race at the age of 22 years and 27 days. Alonso also holds the records for youngest pole winner, youngest World Champion and youngest double World Champion.
But Hamilton has set a rookie record of four consecutive podium finishes in his first four starts.
Points update: The championship battle between the top four drivers remains close. Lewis Hamilton has 30 points, followed by Fernando Alonso with 28, Felipe Massa with 27 and Kimi Raikkonen with 22.
In the Constructors World Championship, McLaren-Mercedes has 58 points to Ferrari's 49.
Schumacher visits: Seven-time World Champion and five-time United States Grand Prix winner Michael Schumacher attended the Spanish Grand Prix as an advisor to the Ferrari team.
Asked if he was just observing things from a distance, Schumacher said: "Exactly! You put the nail on the head."
Schumacher said there is no specific job description for what he will do with the team.
"Ferrari is doing incredibly well," he said. "They have restructured the company in a very good way, so obviously there is much less possibility to be of support."
He said he had no inclination to test a F1 car now, and that owning or running a racing team is not something he wants to do. Schumacher and his family have been vacationing and enjoying a life free from the hectic schedules that surround an F1 driver's life.
"Now when the kids have holidays, we can plan the holidays without any other agenda that comes in my way," Schumacher said. "I am very, very relieved about this one. You can wake up in the morning and make up your own schedule rather than somebody doing it for you."
Work to do: Scuderia Toro Rosso has plenty of work to do following the Spanish Grand Prix, in which both Scott Speed and Vitantonio Liuzzi failed to finish the race.
"A very disappointing weekend," Team Principal Franz Tost said. "The start was OK from both drivers, who did a good job in the early laps. Unfortunately, we then suffered a technical failure on Tonio's car as he lost hydraulic fluid. We will now have to investigate to find out why.
"Scott had a problem with his left rear tire. This will also need investigating. Now we are testing at Paul Ricard, where we will have to work on our reliability issues."
Senna wins: Bruno Senna won the GP2 race May 12 at Barcelona. He is the nephew of three-time World Champion and five-time United States Grand Prix winner Ayrton Senna.
Timo Glock won the GP2 race May 13 at Barcelona.
Renault aims for rebound: Having started the season with an uncompetitive car, reigning Constructors World Champion ING Renault aims to rebound as soon as possible.
"We have pinpointed the zones of the car that are concerned," Renault F1 Team President Alain Dassas said. "Now all we have to do is to find and apply to solutions to get us back on the right track. There's still work to be done.
"We need to be fighting for podium places by the end of the season and to try and become the third-quickest team. That's the minimum required. I'm fully confident, and I know we're capable of achieving that.
"The car is improving at every race. There's obvious progress, although it's in small steps at the moment. Now we need to accelerate that development."
Contract extended: Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya has renewed its deal to play host to the Spanish Grand Prix through 2016.
Singapore has signed a five-year contract to conduct a Grand Prix beginning in 2008.
What's next: A major test session is taking place May 15-18 at France's Paul Ricard circuit.
Round five of the 2007 FIA Formula One World Championship is the Monaco Grand Prix on May 27.
