Ford family denies sell-off

The Ford family issued a rare statement Monday, emphatically denying that members are discussing the sale of part of their Ford Motor Co. holdings.

That suggestion has been gaining steam in the news media — citing unnamed people — after the family heard a presentation about the services a private financial advisory firm could offer the Fords, who have controlled the voting power of the automaker since its inception nearly 104 years ago. The family currently holds 40% of the voting rights in the company.

In April, Perella Weinberg Partners, an independent, privately owned financial services firm that is less than two years old, made a presentation to the Fords during a family meeting.

But Ford officials insist that meeting has been taken out of context and that there was no discussion of selling Ford shares.

"The Ford family is not discussing the sale of its holdings in Ford Motor Co.," a statement from David Hempstead, Ford's longtime attorney, said. "Statements attributable to unnamed sources are untrue." More at Detroit Free Press
