USAC cancels Terre Haute Silver Crown race

UPDATE A reader writes, It is truly sad to see an institution like this go away. I can remember when you went to the first day of quailing at Indy and then drove to Terre Haute for the dirt race and all the "hot shoes" like Andretti and Foyt would show up and put on a great show. Tim DeCesaro

Dear Tim, You can burn your Road to Indy hat now. When Tony George created the IRL he severely weakened the top-level of open wheel racing in the USA and the entire sport has been withering away into oblivion ever since. This will be his legacy. Mark C.

05/03/07 United States Auto Club and Terre Haute Action Track officials regret to announce that the June 2 “Sumar Classic" at the 1/2-mile Indiana oval has been canceled for 2007. No replacement date for the K & N Engineering Silver Crown event has yet been announced……….as open wheel racing in the USA withers further away since the IRL was created.
